Simsbury High School Baseball Team
Class of 1989

From 1987-1989, the Simsbury High School Baseball team was tough to beat. Going 57-4 over that span, Hall of Fame Coach Ray Schwarz’s program ascended from regional threat to state power. The 1989 Trojans, specifically, embodied that standard, going 23- 1, winning the LL State Championship, and finishing as Connecticut’s top-ranked squad. With the exception of four late arrivals, the rest of the 17-man roster were products of the Simsbury Little League system, developing together on neighborhood sandlots and under the guidance of dedicated fathers and revered local coaches like fellow Hall of Fame inductee, Tom Vincent. The senior-laden group—featuring a trio of aces and a lineup that went nine-deep—rebounded from an early hiccup against Xavier to win its final 18 games culminating in a 7-1 title victory over Shelton. “It was like they had a mission,” remarked Schwarz in the exuberant aftermath, “…everything fell into place from start to finish. A lot of guys never got to see this. It’s like the end of that rainbow.”
