Samantha Johnson (Brigham), better known as Sam, graduated from Simsbury High School in 2006, where she played soccer and basketball and ran track one season. During that one track season Sam set an SHS record in the 200 meter run and was a part of the Class L State Championship team. Sam truly excelled on the basketball court. She was a four-year starter who ended up being the SHS career assist leader and fifth leading scorer of all time. She was a three-time All-Conference athlete and a member of the Hartford Courant’s All-State Team as well as being named to the Courant’s Top 25 Squad. Sam went on to play for the Pride of Hofstra where she was named to the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) All-Rookie team as well as being Hofstra’s CAA Commissioner’s Academic Award winner for four straight years. She was also a Dean Ehlers Leadership Award Nominee. In 2006-2007 she was a part of Hofstra’s most-winning season (26-8). By the time she graduated from Hofstra Sam scored over 1000 points in NCAA Division I basketball and her teams had made two WNIT appearances. Sam lives in Plainville, CT with her husband Dale and their son Maverick. She is still involved in Simsbury Basketball as an assistant coach on the girls’ team.
