Frank Chaves
Frank Chaves is considered to be one of the greatest wrestling coaches in the history of Connecticut. He took over the Simsbury Wrestling team in 1978 and 29 years later he retired after winning over 450 meets, a dozen Conference Championships, and three state titles. Frank was twice named the Class L Wrestling Coach of the Year and in 2002 he was named the Connecticut High School Coaches Association Wrestling Coach of the Year. However, it is his wrestler’s accomplishments that Frank takes the most pride in. He guided his athletes to over 380 All-American, All-New England, Open, Class, and Conference place finishes, including four All-American honors, two New England Championships, a dozen state Open Champions, twenty nine Class L or LL State Champions, and 179 All Conference selections. Frank also helped coach Simsbury football from 1977 until 1990 where he produced two undefeated freshmen teams, and he served as a wrestling referee for over a decade. He is currently a volunteer assistant wrestling coach at SHS. Coach Chaves is a member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in Stillwater, Oklahoma as well as the New England Wrestling Hall of Fame.
Frank lives in Farmington with his wife of 21 years, Sally. He has three sons: Kyle, Trevor, and Ryan and is a proud grandfather four times over.
