Peter Hatton excelled at football, lacrosse and on the wrestling mats during his days as a Trojan. In his senior year (1986), he was named the Coca-Cola Scholastic Athlete of the Year. Peter played varsity football for three years and was a captain his senior year. During the 1984, 1985, and 1986 seasons, the teams went a combined 21-8-1. Peter was a two-time All Conference player, and during his senior year earned All Conference recognition as both a linebacker and fullback. Peter excelled in the sport of wrestling and was a trailblazer, setting incredibly high standards for his wrestling teammates and posterity. The two-time team captain and SHS Outstanding Wrestler winner was Simsbury High School’s first member of the Wrestling 100 Win Club (career record 108-9-2, a 92% win percentage). Peter was the first wrestler to earn All Conference four times, and the first (and currently only) wrestler to place in the state division four times (1st LL, 2nd LL, 3rd LL, 4th L). When he won the LL title in 1985, he and his brother Jeff (1983 Class L Champion) became the first Simsbury High School brothers to each win an individual title. In 1986 Peter capped his amazing wrestling career as a State Open champion and was the second SHS wrestler ever to make it to the State Open finals twice. Excellence followed Peter onto the lacrosse fields. He scored more than 50 goals and had 25 assists during his last two years, while helping lead the team to a 23-10-1 record. He earned All State honors in 1985 and 1986, and in 1986 was also named an All American player. Peter went on to wrestle and play lacrosse for Penn State. Upon graduation he coached football and wrestling, leading two wrestling teams to state titles. He currently resides in Edmond, Oklahoma, with his wife Kristen. Their three children are Rebecca, David, and Jonathan. Peter is a Sr. Pastor at Redeemer Presbyterian Church and believes that the impact of the coaches and teachers at SHS “helped shape me to be the man I am today.”
