Mike Hood had a storied high school athletic career in which he started and earned 11 varsity letters during his career at SHS. Mike played, football, hockey and baseball from 1992-1995. In that time period his teams won 8 CCC West Championships with 5 of those teams reaching the State Semi-finals in the state tournament. Mike earned All State recognition in all three sports he participated in. A fiery competitor, Mike posted a 28-4 record as a varsity starting QB, scored 70 goals and had 120 assists in hockey and hit .453 in baseball. Recognition for Mike's achievements went beyond the state when he was named a scholar-athlete by the National Football Foundation and to the USA Today 1994 All USA Football Team. Following High School, Mike attended Cornell University where he was the starting quarterback for 2 years. Upon graduating from Colgate, Mike held several passing records centering on completion percentage as well as the season record for number of completions. In culmination of all of his athletic achievements, Mike was selected by the Hartford Courant in 1999 as one one of "Simsbury's Best Athletes of the Century".
