Dan Hood was one of the most versatile athletes in Simsbury High School history as he excelled at football, hockey, and baseball. He was a three-year starting varsity quarterback who also excelled as a kicker, a four-year letter winner at hockey (who he helped lead to a State Championship in 2003), and a three-year varsity baseball player. During his sophomore year he was named to the All-Conference football (both kicker and punter) and hockey teams as well as being named to the Honorable Mention All-State Hockey (defensemen) Team. During his junior year Dan was named to the All-Conference football (QB, kicker, punter), hockey, and baseball teams. He also earned an exceptionally rare trifecta as he was First Team All-State in Football (punter, Honorable Mention as QB), Hockey (defensemen), and Baseball (catcher). He was also named as the Hartford Courant’s “Best of the Best” in hockey. Dan’s senior year was also stellar as he was All-Conference in football (kicker and punter), hockey, and baseball while also earning First Team All-State honors in football (kicker) and Hockey (defensemen) and 2nd team All-State in baseball. Dan captained the football, hockey, and baseball programs. In all, Dan was First Team All-State five times, Second Team once and Honorable Mention twice for a total of eight All-State recognitions. He was also honored twelve times as an All-Conference athlete. Dan excelled as a football and baseball player at Hamilton College where he lettered a total of eight times. He played quarterback, H-Back, and kicked off and punted. During baseball season he started catcher all four years while also playing outfield and pitcher. At graduation he was second all-time in career hits (122).
