George Mainville played three sports at Simsbury High School and earned ten varsity letters. He was a three-sport captain as a senior at SHS and earned himself a tryout with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1949 and the Boston Braves in 1950. He made the second team as a first baseman. In 1949, George accepted a scholarship to Hillyer College (University of Hartford) where he played baseball and basketball and was again elected captain in both sports as a senior. George is proud to have graduated with a 3.5 GPA and in the top 5% of his class. From 1953-1955 George served in the US Army and continued his baseball career playing for and coaching the Post Team. He then returned to Simsbury where he married Annie Marie Holcombe and had four children who all attended SHS. George and Anne Marie were blessed with three grandchildren who attended SHS as well. All of them played sports for the Trojans.
