Raymond “Ray” Schwartz started coaching and teaching in Simsbury in fall of 1973. As head boys basketball coach from 1974-1982 and then again from 1984-2004 his teams won 298 games and six Conference Championships. His teams were perennial state qualifiers as they participated in the State Tournament eighteen times. As head baseball coach from 1983-1995 his teams won 325 games with eight Conference Championships, including two State Titles. While at the helm for the Golf Program from 1977-1981 Ray led his athletes to over 100 wins, three League Titles, and a State Championship. By the time he retired Ray had helped to develop a significant number of outstanding athletes. Because of the many decades of service to the Simsbury Schools as well as his overall character, Ray is a beloved and respected figure simply known as “Coach” to generations of Simsbury High School athletes and their families. Ray is a member of the Sharon (MA) Hall of Fame as well as the Norwich University Athletic Hall of Fame. He lives with his wife Kathy in New Hartford. Their family includes three children (Kim, Kelly, Kristen), three grand-children (Kenna, Kylie, Cole) and two in-laws (Carolyn, Stephen).
