Tammy Thompson O’Brien graduated from Simsbury High School in 1989, where she played soccer, basketball, and lacrosse. Tammy truly excelled on the soccer field as a four-year starter, earning 4 All-Conference selections, 3 All-State honors, All-New England and All- American accolades her senior season. She was also a varsity letter winner in basketball and lacrosse 2 years. Tammy went on to play Division 1 soccer at the University of Hartford as a four-year starter in the mid-field. The Hawks appeared in the NCAA Final Four in 1992, dropping a tough battle to Duke 1-0 in the semi-finals match. That season University of Hartford were ranked #2 in the nation. After graduating from University of Hartford she was the JV soccer coach at Simsbury HS, and later went back to University of Hartford as an assistant coach. She then became head girls soccer coach at Hall High School.

This is Tammy’s third induction into a Hall of Fame. In 2005 her 1992 soccer team was inducted to the University of Hartford Hall of Fame. In 2018 her 1987 soccer team was in the inaugural SHS Hall of Fame class. That squad went undefeated, won the CT Class L championship, finishing ranked #3 in the country. Tammy was raised in Simsbury and has lived in Simsbury with her husband Ken for 24 years. She is the proud mother of Kaitlyn and Matthew. Kaitlyn is a 2022 graduate of Simsbury High School and was a three-sport athlete earning All-State and All—Conference honors as a goalie in field hockey & ice hockey and continued her athletic career at University of Rhode Island. Matthew has also enjoyed time as an athlete at SHS.
