Kate Townsley Pendergast graduated from Simsbury High School in 1994. She looks back at her athletic career as being the highlight of her memories and the foundation for all of her lifelong friendships. The experience of being part of a team and being coached have shaped who she is, and continues to be a strong influence in her life.
In high school, Kate played soccer and lacrosse for four years and basketball for two years. During her senior year, she was captain of the soccer and lacrosse teams where she earned All New England and All American honors, respectively. During her career she broke the all-time Simsbury High School scoring records in lacrosse and season scoring record in soccer. Her premier soccer team, Connecticut Omni, won the U-17 National Championship in Phoenix, AZ in the summer of 1993.
Kate attended the University of Delaware where she studied English-Journalism and played Division I soccer for four years and lacrosse for one year. She was the captain of the soccer team during her senior year. Curious about the business side of athletics, she interned her senior year for the Philadelphia Flyers and 76ers. After earning her Masters Degree in Sports Management from the University of Connecticut, Kate moved to California where she worked for the L.A. Galaxy (MLS Team) and the L.A. Kings (NHL Team). She is now the Vice President for Institutional Advancement at the University of Hartford.
Kate is married to Kevin Pendergast, who was an All American soccer player from Simsbury High School. He went on to the University of Notre Dame, where he played soccer and also was the kicker for the football team. They live in Simsbury with their two sons, Nolan and Emmet.
