Wesley Connell was at SHS for eight seasons from the winter of 1997 until graduating in 2000. During those eight seasons Wes was All-Conference seven times, All-State four times, and All New-England twice. Wes had his most success while on the mat as wrestler for the Trojans. He won two Class L state titles, a State-Open title, and placed twice in the New England Tournament. He was the first ever Simsbury wrestler to place three times at the State Open and first to place twice at New Englands. Wes compiled a 125-15 record including a then record of 45 wins in one season during his 2000 campaign. Wes also earned All-Conference honors in baseball all three years at SHS and led the team in home runs and RBI his senior season. During his two years playing football at SHS he led all Trojans in tackles and interceptions and was named All-Conference and First Team All-State as a senior. Wes was named defensive back and defensive player of the year for the 1999-2000 season and honored as SHS male athlete of the year in 2000.
After graduating from Simsbury High, Wes went on to study Mechanical Engineering while wrestling at Trinity College in Hartford. His wrestling teams claimed the only two team titles in Trinity Wrestling history, and individually, he placed four times in the New England tournament. Wesley got master’s degrees in business and in Information Systems from Boston University and now designs large scale robotic systems at Amazon Robotics. Wesley lives outside of Boston with his wife and two young children.
